The teachers from Moonee Ponds Primary school are up dancing on the stage at the clock tower! They are performing Louder by Nathaniel and have just finished with a magnificent applause from the audience as they drift off stage. We are now at the clock tower and we are speaking to one on the main performers, Jess. So how did it feel being up on the stage? “It was exhilarating”! Said Jess with barley any breath to speak. Lets cross to the stage were 5?6 a are now performing a mash-up. Wow these students can really boggy! A massive applause at the end of there performance, Beautifully done. so that shows you what primary school can really do. Maths Mate Term 4 Week 4

Question: I think of a number, double it and then add 8. if the result is 40, what was the original number.

Clarification: to try and find the number that they started with.

Prediction: I predict I will have to use the stratagie make a similar sum or addition problem.


  1. Think what equals 32 when you double it.
  2. 16 is the number that was doubled
  3. once you have that number you add 8 on
  4. So 8+32=40.

Question: I think of a number, double it and then add 4. if the result is 20, what was the original number

Clarification to use the clues that they give you to try and figure out the number that they started off with.

Prediction: I think I will have to use make a similar sum or addition problem to figure this equation out.


  1. I first thought what equals 16, because then I can just add on 4 to get the answer.
  2. 16 is 8 doubled so once you do all your working out that all adds up to twenty.
  3. Now you have to write in the box what number you started off with which was 8.

Question: Miranda and Gina take $50.00 to the movies. They buy their tickets, two medium soft drinks and one large popcorn to share. How much change do they receive.

Prediction: I predict I will have to use make a number sentence for this problem.

Clarification: To add up all item and then figure out how much change is left.


  1. Add all the items together to get a total. 43:50
  2. Once you have added all the items together you minus them by 50 to see how change you will receive.
  3. Your answer should be 6:50. Then you write it down.

Question: I think of a number, subtract 5 and then divide by 3. If the result is 6, what was the original number?

Prediction: I predict I will have to use past tense knowledge to solve this problem.

Clarifaction: TI try to figure out the number that we started with to fit into the questions being asked.


  1. I immediately thought of my 6 times tables because that made it a lot eaisier for me.
  2. Becuse 3 times 6 is 18 I just added on five and got my answer.
  3. So if you figure out the easy probkems first it makes it a whole lot easier.

Activity Two:

Choose 5 words from your list, and re write their definition in your own words. Put the word in a sentence or give an example of a well known person that is famous for their work in that field.

Zoology- The study of animals.     People who work in zoos can be good at zoology.

Beaker: A Glass that is used to measure liquid.    I measured out 200ml in a beaker.

Experiment: A scientific way to create something new.      I am going to be doing an experiment to see if pigs can fly.

Gravity: A air that keeps you connected to the earth.           Out of space there is no gravity so you can float.

Physicist: A person whos really good at physics.               A Physicist once read my mind

Activity Three:

Choose three words from your list, and write down a text to self, and a text to world connection to each.

Experiment reminds me of when we did the coke in the bottle with mentos. Experiments are used everyday all over the world to help it become a better place.

Beaker reminds me of when we were in the science room cleaning and we were making gel to wash it with. If Beakers weren’t around then we wouldn’t really have a world.

Mineral reminds me when we were in the science room making lots of different types of soaps with different resources. There are lots of minerals in the world all that are in the air.
